Is The Purge: Election Year The Baddest of Them All?

When the first “The Purge” movie came out, it surprised the audience worldwide. It was the first movie of its kind and it was simply amazing. As time went by, two more sequels were created. Now, the real question is, is “The Purge: Election Year” the baddest of them all, and in which sense? The most badass or simply the worst movie of the three of them?

Before we reveal this to you, we will start with the numbers. The producers had the budget of $10 million to create the second sequel to the original movie “The Purge.” In its opening weekend “Election Year” grossed $31.4 million, and finished third at the box office. The first two spots belonged to Finding Dory ($41.4 million) and The Legend of Tarzan ($38.6 million). Up until now, the movie has a $99 million worldwide gross.

Just like the two previous movies, “The Purge: Election Year” is a political horror movie. It takes place two years after Leo Barnes stopped himself from committing revenge on Purge Night, which he would have regretted. Now, Barnes is the head of security for Senator Charlie Roan and his task is to protect her in the run for president. His greatest challenge was to come up with a protection plan for the upcoming Purge Night. However, due to the combination of circumstances they find themselves on the streets of Washington D.C. on this dreadful night. Their only goal becomes to survive until the sun comes up.

Sounds pretty intense, right? However, the movie did not manage to impress everyone. “The Purge: Election Year” scored 54% on the Tomato Meter (Rotten Tomatoes), MetaCritic gave it 55 points out of 100, and CinemaScore gave the film a “B+”.

The reason behind such scores is probably because viewers fined the “beer-bottle filter” unattractive. In addition, some claim that there is nothing extremely new in the movie. Others feel that the producers have taken bits and pieces from the previous movies and put them together. Also, there are opinions that the movie was supposed to be a political satire, but it ended up being not a good one.

One of the many things the director and producers have done well in the movie is putting together all different characters and making them an inevitable part of the story. The movie is filled with intense moments, stunningly directed violence, and also ideas from other movies such as Clockwork Orange, Soylent Green, The Warriors, and many others make the movie even more interesting.

“The Purge: Election Year” is surprisingly intense and effective movie. And, in the spirit of upcoming elections, it certainly draws some lines between the Senator and Hillary Clinton, as well as the Minister and Donald Trump. See the movie for yourself, and you will understand what we are talking about.

But, before you do that, make sure to see these amazing behind-the-scenes moments and how the movie was made.
