Melissa McCarthy Triumphs for All The ‘Susans’ In “Spy”

One great thing “Spy” has and other movies lack is the Hollywood’s empress of laughter, Melissa McCarthy. In this movie, McCarthy does not only have the license to kill the audience with laughter, but also to slay us with her acting skills. It is also a real beauty to watch this lady taking the lead performance.

Paul Feig took his time to write a script entirely for McCarthy. In “Spy”, Melissa is soft, feminine, and smart. However, no matter how hard she tries, her co-workers see nothing more than her outside, and they fail to see the dignified woman she is inside. Feig is absolutely in love with Susan Cooper played by Melissa McCarthy, and he wants all of us to love her. But, he does not resist including how the rest of the world treats her, and women like her. Susan might have saved the day, but her battle for respect will never be over.

Unfortunately, many reviewers actually took this matter too seriously and failed to see what Feig actually tried to do. They claim that limp and lazy spy is nothing new to the industry that has been trying to make fun of agents for ages. Also, they were looking for a hilarious twist in an overweight woman with a wig and “I Love Cats” T-shirt, failing to see the point.

Paul Feig did a great job by pairing up Melissa McCarthy and Jason Statham. These two play off of each other perfectly and the movie is an absolute blast to watch. The dynamic duo has a ton of chemistry both in the movie and on set. And, yes, believe it or not, Statham is actually hilarious.

The cast is the movie’s strongest weapon. Even though the best jokes in the movie belong to Statham, every role is perfectly constructed. And, we mean absolutely every role from Peter Serafinowicz’s Italian agent to Miranda Hart, Susan’s best friend. Even Rayna, the antagonist of “Spy”, gets in a few good lines before she gets dispatched. Even though Rayna is the example of terrifying perfection, you can’t wait for Susan to put her where she belongs.

Taylor Swift once said, “Haters gonna hate, hate, hate.” “Spy” received critical acclaim, and critics praised amazing performances as well as hilarious lines. In addition, the movie grossed a worldwide total of $235.6 million against a budget of $65 million. With its amazing reception, “Spy” is and will remain one of the greatest comedies that make fun of the perfect agents.
