Awake: The Life of Yogananda

Description

Awake: The Life of Yoganada is a documentary film that follows the story of Yoganada, a Hindu swami who brought yoga and meditation techniques to the United States in the early 1920s. The documentary uses a mixture of actual footage as well as acted recreation to depict the story being told. The film took over three entire years to complete filming and was filmed in or with the assistance of over thirty different countries around the globe. Aside from Paramahansa Yogananda, the film also is a study on the nature and practice of various forms of meditation and mystic yogic practices as well as the clash of the West's more materialistic and money oriented ethos going up against the old Eastern traditions of inward-seeking reflection and self realization.
